Flushing Out Pesticides
A peer-reviewed study published in Environmental Health Perspectives found levels of nerve-gas-like pesticides (chlorpyrifos and malathion) in the bodies of children who eat non-organic (conventional) grown fruits and veggies. This was compared to children who ate organically grown foods where they found no pesticide residues in their bodies. Pesticides are flushed out of the body within 36 hours when children consume organic produce according to Chensheng Lu, lead researcher of the study and professor at Emory University's School of Public Health. The produce which have the highest pesticides include apples, peaches, strawberries, sweet bell peppers, nectarines and cherries. Just another great reason to shop organic at your local farmer's market or organic section at your grocery store.
