Natural Vs. Synthetic Vitamins

Synthetic vitamins are produced from scratch in a manufacturing plant. They are fractionated (not whole) parts of what the naturally occurring vitamin actually looks like. Therefore, they are deviod of the many cofactors, enzymes and minerals found in natural vitamins and which act synergistically with the vitamins in the body. Synthetic vitamins when produced often are mirror images to the natural vitamins found in foods and being a mirror image they often do not function the same as the natural vitamin.
When vitamins are obtained through nature such as in whole foods, or superfoods like bee pollen, cod liver oil, and spirulina they may have profound beneficial effects on a person's health. Whereas synthetic vitamin B for instance, which is derived from coal tar, had no effect on beriberi (a B vitamin deficiency) in US prisoners of war held captive in North Korea. However, when these same prisoners were given the natural vitamin B from rice polishings they all improved. Who really wants their vitamins derived from coal tar anyway?
