Mercury Found in Corn Syrup, Mmmm!

If you didn't think you could get enough mercury from fish or those old vaccines now you have more choices. A recent study published in the Environmental Health Journal has found detectable levels of mercury in 9 out of 20 commercial high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) samples. HFCS is often produced from caustic soda that contains mercury. HealthDay News reported of another study by Dr. David Wallinga of the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy in which 1 of every 3 brand-named foods (55 tested) included mercury. The most common foods with mercury were dairy products, dressing and condiments. Dr. Wallinga stated "Given how much high-fructose corn syrup is consumed by children, it could be a significant additional source of mercury never before considered."
High levels of mercury can cause brain and liver damage, it can also increase blood pressure, cause rashes, and vomiting. It has also been associated with diabetes and ADD in children. According to Dr. Oz, the medical expert from the Oprah show, high-fructose corn syrup is number one on his list to remove from your life, especially in foods where it is listed as the first ingredient.
