Closing In On The Heart Attack Gap

A new analysis of health surveys by lead author Amytis Towfighi found that women between the ages of 45 and 54 are closing the gender gap on heart attacks. This was due to a small decline in the percentage of heart attacks in men of the same age and a rise in the number of heart attacks in women. It was suggested that a rise in obesity rates might be partially to blame. However , it appears that women are not treated as aggressively as men for high cholesterol and high blood pressure (traditional risk factors for heart attacks). This is an eye opener for women to pay greater attention to their health.
